Rockfall Modelling in Forested Areas: The Role of Digital Terrain Model Grid Cell Size

نویسندگان

چکیده

This article examines how digital terrain model (DTM) grid cell size influences rockfall modelling using a probabilistic process-based model, Rockyfor3D, while taking into account the effect of forest on propagation and runout area. Two sites in Trenta valley, NW Slovenia, were chosen as case study. The analysis included DTM square sizes 1, 2, 5, 10 m, which extracted from LiDAR data. In paper, we compared results areas, maximum kinetic energy, passing height between different forest/no scenario, namely by goodness-of-fit indices (average index, success distance to perfect classification, true skill statistics). show that accuracy modelled shape area decreases with larger sizes. has important reducing only at DTM1 DTM2 if source is large enough. Higher deviations energy are present DTMs size, differences smaller more Maximum varies most other DTMs, it does not experience two scenarios.

Digital Terrain Model Resolution and its Influence on Estimating the Extent of Rockfall Areas

As rockfall can cause a great deal of damage, it is essential to know its spatial propagation. Rockfall models are sensitive to the resolution of input data i.e. the used digital terrain models (DTM). Nowadays, high resolution elevation data are area widely available from airborne laser scanning (ALS). ALS can even provide very accurate terrain information in forested areas. However, rockfall m...

Digital Terrain Modelling for Archaeological Interpretation within Forested Areas using Full-Waveform Laserscanning

The identification of sites within forested areas is one of the remaining unresolved issues for archaeological prospection. Airborne laser scanning can be a solution to this problem: due to the capability of penetrating forest to a certain degree (depending on the vegetation density) the determination of the terrain surface is even possible in wooded areas. To be able to identify archaeological...

Generation of Digital Terrain Models from Multiple Sar Airborne Surveys over Forested Areas

This paper considers the retrieval of ground elevation in presence of volume scattering, basing on multibaseline airborne SAR data. Once the interferometric phases related to ground-only contributions have been estimated through Algebraic Synthesis technique, the problem is similar to the one of generating a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) basing on multiple repeat-pass spaceborne SAR surveys. No...
